Famed for its Wine Spectator award-winning wine list, J&G Steakhouse at The Phoenician has dug deep into its cellar for the grand premier of its first-ever Rare Wine Week (May 5 – 16, 2019). Offered nightly from 5 – 10 pm, guests will be able to upgrade the traditional wine pairings for J&G’s signature five-course Tasting Menu with premium, exceedingly rare wines from the landmark Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma, CA, for an additional $200++p.p. Hand-picked by J&G Steakhouse’s GM, Patrick Norton, and Assistant GM and Certified Specialist of Wine, Taylor Chandler, each wine has been selected to pair with J&G’s Executive Chef, Jacques Qualin’s seasonal Tasting Menu.

“Working with Chef Jacques, Taylor and I have put together a list of exciting, exclusive wines that will not only wow our guests, but each pairs perfectly with our new seasonal Tasting Menu,” Chandler says. “And thanks to our new high-tech wine preservation system, we are able to pour these delicate, decades-old wines, so you can sample multiple rare vintages in a single setting, rather than ordering an entire bottle.”

Founded by the London-born Sir Peter Michael back in the 1980s, his eponymous winery has developed a cult following, Chandler says, due to its stellar ratings and limited production, especially for its flagship, estate-grown Cabernet blend Les Pavots. “I chose the 2003 vintages because during this tough year for Napa, Sir Michael still managed to shine. I chose the ’99 because this was one of Napa’s best years, something you save for your grandchildren. 2010 was also one of those incredible years, and with a little bit of aging, these wines have developed into a soft feminine, yet complex display of what Napa truly represents.”

Kicking off this May 5 – 16, J&G’s Rare Wine Week will be a new seasonal special offered every May, September and January.  J&G’s five-Course Tasting Menu is $67++p.p., and the optional Rare Wine Week pairing is an additional $200++ p.p.
